Private Exemption Certificate Application for shipment of a low commercial private Vehicle rate Vehicles carrying or designed to carry goods are normally charged at freight rates. We do offer a concession to allow customers in commercial vehicles to travel at the private rate for low vans if they are genuinely being used for private purposes only, on a return journey basis and the vehicle is less than 6.5metres in length, less than 2.5m in height and no more than 2,900kilograms. The private vehicle accompanied vehicle rate is not applicable if any part of the return journey is being made for commercial purposes regardless of the vehicle contents. Single journeys will be charged at the commercial rate. Commercial rates will be charged for a vehicle designed to carry goods if the vehicle is in excess of 6.5metres long or 2.5m. in height. In order to apply for the private vehicle rate this form must be completed and shown when checking in at the Ports and will be retained by our staff on the return journey. The company reserves the right to examine the contents of the vehicle, and excess to commercial rate should the journey be deemed to be for commercial purposes. All vehicles purposely designed to carry goods are classified as commercial this includes vans, pick ups, car derived cans and vehicles which have had the purpose of the vehicle changed to purely carry goods. The company offers this concession to those customers who are travelling for purely private purposed, however conditions are in place to assist in the maintaining and monitoring of this concession. Please find below conditions and guidelines in respect of the private concession for commercial vehicles which the Steam Packet Company offers. Rules The vehicle must NOT exceed 2.5m. in height, 6.5m. in length and/or 3ton in weight The vehicle must be doing a return trip NO tools of the trade must be carried in the vehicle The purpose of the trip must be for non commercial purposes The vehicle must bot be carrying any commercial items This form must be completed and presented at the ports upon check in The vehicle may be subject to search Vehicle should be book with the Freight Office (see contact details below) Please find below guidelines to try and assist you. Commercial rates are as follows: Prices effective 1st January, 2008 if under 2.3m. in height & 6.5m. in length Return £356.30p. per vehicle (including fuel surcharge) + VAT + driver & passenger fares (£60-£72.per person) if over 2.3m. in height and/or 6.5m. in length Return £134.30p. per metre of length of the vehicle (including fuel surcharge) + VAT inc. drivers fare, additional passenger £88.20p. per person
Not adhering to the rules of this concession or abuse of the concession can result in withdrawal of the concession all together. If the vehicle is searched upon arrival at the port and is deemed to be commercial you would be excessed to the full commercial rate as above.
