The Gasthof Zweerd is located on the main square, which features
the Battlefields Museum, which offers an in-depth insight into the
1st World War.
The charming hotel is uniquely situated close to the famous market
square of Ieper. The cosy brasserie offers a limited menu. The
charming restaurant boasts an extensive menu with creative culinary
dishes and a 'Menu of the Month'. The hotel has a lift and 17
comfortable rooms fitted with every modern comfort. The fine reception
room can accommodate up to 95 people and is fitted for meetings,
business dinners, seminars, weddings, communions and anniversaries,
etc.
Every visitor to Ieper should visit the Menin Gate. This impressive
archway was built as a memorial to the Soldiers of the Commonwealth
that died and have no known grave. Recorded on it's walls are
the names of those 54,896 soldiers who died between 1914 and 1917.
This great monument was unable even in it's vastness to record
all the fallen soldiers and an additional 30,000 names are recorded
on the nearby walls of the Commonwealth's largest war grave cemetery
at Tyne Cot and are still being added. Every night at 8PM the
bugulers of the Ieper Fire Brigade sound the Last Post as a salute
to the fallen at the Menin Gate.

The city boasts the fine Saint Martin's Cathedral and Saint George's
English Military Chapel.
On the outskirts of the city are many places to visit from famous
battle fields of Flanders and for the lighter of heart and young
people, Belwardie Amusement Park. The city square, one of the
most beautiful in Europe is lined with cafes and bars offering
a fine selection of famous Belgian beers, excellent cuisine, chocolate
shops and shops to suit your every need.
